How to apply for a renovation subsidy for windows in Belgium, region by region

You are replacing your windows and you want a subsidy. The question is not only "how much", but "in what order". In Belgium, each Region has its own procedure, and a step taken at the wrong time can cost you the aid. Here is how to proceed, region by region. First of all: which Region does your home belong to?

The address of the home decides, not where you work. The 19 Brussels municipalities come under the Brussels-Capital Region. Tervuren, Zaventem, Kraainem, Wezembeek-Oppem, Vilvoorde, Overijse or Dilbeek come under the Flemish Region, even where they border Brussels. Waterloo, Wavre, Braine-l’Alleud or La Hulpe come under Wallonia.

In Brussels: no regional grant, but the ECORENO credit

In Brussels there is currently no regional grant to apply for when replacing windows. The RENOLUTION grants are no longer open. Three things remain to be done.

1. Ask your municipal administration whether it offers a municipal renovation grant. These exist in some municipalities and are not centralised.

2. If you are financing the works, look into the ECORENO credit with the Housing Fund of the Brussels-Capital Region (Fonds du Logement). It is not a grant but a reduced-rate loan, 2.5% or 3.5% depending on your income, reopened since 1 January 2026.

3. Check that the 6% VAT rate appears on your quote, if your home is at least ten years old. In Brussels, it is the main aid you actually have.

In Wallonia: the audit first, then the application

In Wallonia, the Prime Habitation covers the replacement of external joinery, under a temporary scheme running until 30 September 2026. The order of the steps is decisive.

1. Have the home audited by an auditor accredited by Wallonia, before the works begin. Without a prior audit, there is no grant for windows. The audit itself is subsidised.

2. Request a quote that states the thermal performance: window Uw no higher than 1.50 W/m²K and glazing Ug no higher than 1.10 W/m²K. These values appear on our quotes.

3. Have the works carried out and keep the detailed final invoice.

4. Submit the application on the official Primes Habitation portal, logement.wallonie.be, within eight months of the registration of the audit report, and by 30 September 2026 at the latest, final invoice included.

The grant starts from €26 per m² of joinery replaced, multiplied by a coefficient that depends on the household’s reference income, capped at 70% or 50% of the invoice depending on the category. The categories are detailed on our window grants page and on the Walloon portal.

In Flanders: the application after the works, based on the invoice

In Flanders, the Mijn VerbouwPremie covers windows and external doors. Unlike Wallonia, the application is submitted after the works.

1. Check your income category. Since 1 March 2026, categories 1 and 2 are no longer entitled to the grant for windows; categories 3 and 4 are.

2. Check that the building was connected to the electricity grid before 1 January 2006.

3. Request a quote with glazing whose Ug value does not exceed 1.0 W/m²K, and 2.0 W/m²K for a solid external door.

4. Have the works carried out, then submit the application on the official vlaanderen.be portal with the invoice. Only the part of the invoice between €1,000 and €10,500 excluding VAT counts: 50% for category 4, capped at €5,250, and 35% for category 3, capped at €3,675.

6% VAT: nothing to apply for

In all three Regions, the 6% VAT rate applies to works in a private home occupied for at least ten years, used as a dwelling after the works and invoiced to a consumer. There has been no certificate to sign since 1 July 2022: the contractor puts the wording on the invoice. Simply check that the rate appears on the quote before ordering.
