Two ways to fit a roller shutter
You do not need to change your windows to have shutters. Depending on your situation, the box is fitted in one of two ways.
Compact box, as a retrofit, without touching your windows
A compact box fitted outside, above the window: on the façade, or in the window reveal under the lintel. It is independent of the frame, which stays as it is, with no drilling or alteration. This is the option for a house that has already been renovated, or for just a few rooms: a bedroom, a living room facing the sun.
Integrated box, with a new window
The box is part of the new frame: window and shutter form a single unit, fitted in one go. It is the most discreet option, with no add-on box on the façade, when you are replacing your windows.
Aluminium slats, not PVC
All our slats are aluminium. They are stiffer than PVC slats and deform less over time, including on wide openings such as a sliding door.
Box and slats come in several colours, to match the frame or the façade.
Kömmerling and GLR, Somfy motors
For integrated shutters we work with Kömmerling, the brand of our PVC windows: box and window are designed for each other.
For compact add-on boxes and made-to-measure configurations, we fit GLR shutters.
In both cases the motor is a Somfy, with its remote controls and grouping options.
Manual, electric or solar
Three ways to operate your shutters. The choice depends on the room, the number of shutters and whether a cable can be run.
Manual
A manual control, with no motor and no electricity. Simple and economical for a small window or a room that is rarely used.
Electric
A Somfy motor operated by a switch or a remote control. The shutters of one façade, or of the whole house, can be grouped on a single control.
Solar
A Somfy motor powered by a small solar panel on the box, with a battery. No cable to run, no chasing into the wall: the ideal option for a retrofit, when the window is already in place.
What a roller shutter changes day to day
Cooler in summer
The shutter stops the sun before the glass. The room heats up less, especially behind a large south- or west-facing opening.
Warmth kept in winter
Closed at night, the shutter adds a layer of air between the cold and the glass. The room stays more comfortable near the window.
Darkness and quiet
A dark bedroom, even in midsummer. The shutter also softens street noise.
Privacy and deterrence
Closed, the shutter keeps the room out of sight and adds one more obstacle to a break-in.

We measure each window and look with you at where the box goes, on the façade or in the reveal, whether a cable is possible or whether solar is the answer.

Can roller shutters be fitted without changing the windows?
Yes. The compact-box shutter is fitted outside, on the façade or in the window reveal. It is independent of the frame: the window stays in place, unaltered. It is the option for houses that have already been renovated, or when only a few rooms need shutters.
Does a solar shutter work in Belgium?
Yes. A small panel on the box recharges a battery that powers the Somfy motor. The system is designed for our climate, and it avoids any cabling, which matters in a renovation.
Can several shutters be operated with one remote?
Yes, with Somfy motors: one remote can operate a single shutter, a whole façade or the whole house, with timed schedules if you wish.
Do you fit shutters on sliding doors?
Yes. Aluminium slats suit wide openings. On a new sliding door the integrated box is part of the frame; on an existing one a compact box is fitted above it, outside, without touching the frame.
Which colours for slats and box?
Several colours are available for both the slats and the box. Most often they are matched to the frame: white on white, anthracite on anthracite.
